Marguerite Vasseur

Deputy Editor, Science

Marguerite Vasseur ran a receptor-pharmacology bench for six years — GPCR trafficking, mostly, with a two-year detour into biased agonism at the glucagon receptor family — before deciding she would rather explain the field than add to it.

She edits the Journal’s pharmacology and clinical-trials coverage and writes the long explainers. Her recurring complaint, filed roughly monthly, is that the popular account of GLP-1 pharmacology skips the part that actually matters: these are not appetite drugs with metabolic side effects, they are metabolic drugs whose appetite effect is the most legible outcome.

She reads the statistical analysis plan before the paper.

The restart nobody plans for

The convention — resume lower, re-escalate — is not caution. It follows directly from the elimination half-life.
