Noor Haddadin traces peptides backwards: from the vial to the packager, the packager to the synthesis house, the synthesis house to the resin and the protected amino acids, and — where it is possible at all — to the plant that made those.

She built and maintains the Journal’s vendor dossier programme, which means she is the person who writes to twenty companies every quarter asking for a batch record and records, without editorialising, whether they answer.

Her working assumption is that the interesting variance in this market is not between vendors but between batches, and that the trade’s habit of rating a company on a single number is the least informative thing it does.
