Reporting on incretins, compounding & the peptide supply chain
The most consequential decisions in this field are made by people with no access to the documents that would inform them. That is not a complaint about those people. It is a description of an information problem, and an information problem is the only kind of problem a publication is any use against.
In this number, 60 pieces across 8 departments, with 110 further dispatches filed from the newsroom and 31 contributors on the page. We lead with Marguerite Vasseur on Reducing a dose is not going backwards. In a tolerability-limited class it is the mechanism by which the ceiling is found and set beside it Delphine Ruzek in Explainers. Part 4 of Twenty Vendors, Twenty Vials continues on the inside pages.
Our analytics department has a standing rule that irritates people, and it is right to. A purity figure without a gradient, a wavelength and an integration threshold cannot be compared with any other purity figure, and reporting it as though it can is not neutrality — it is passing on a claim while pretending to have checked it. We would rather print "method not stated" than a number we cannot situate.
Next month: the continuation of two investigations that have each taken longer than planned, for the usual reason — the documents took longer to obtain than the writing took to do.
Holding a dose is a decision, not a failure
Reducing a dose is not going backwards. In a tolerability-limited class it is the mechanism by which the ceiling is found.
